The Petronas Twin Towers, located in the central business district of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, were once the tallest skyscrapers in the world (1998-2004) and now stand as the tallest twin towers globally. With a height of 452 meters and 88 floors, they were funded by Petronas (Malaysia’s national oil company) and serve as the iconic landmark and core tourist attraction of Kuala Lumpur. Connected by a Skybridge between the two towers, the interior includes office spaces, a shopping mall, an observation deck, and a concert hall, integrating commercial, leisure, and sightseeing functions.
Core Architecture: The 73-meter-high minaret is the visual focal point of the mosque. The 16-pointed star-shaped concrete main roof symbolizes the tropical rainforest, and the 18 spires on the roof represent the Federation of Malaysia and the five tenets of Islam respectively.
Interior Design: The roof of the main prayer hall is composed of 49 circular structures of varying sizes, forming 18 radial starbursts. This design implicitly corresponds to the meaning of Malaysia’s 13 states and the “Five Pillars of Islam”, making the overall space both solemn and full of modern sense.
